A summary in English by Egor Koshelev of the original Russian-language correspondence files, related to what is described in the files as a joint Afghan-Soviet documentary film
"Green Field" (3160.2.3685, September 1, 1981 - January, 1982). The folder provides budget information on services, delivered to Afghan Films by several Moscow studios.
In this information we find the traces of
the story told by Eng. Latif about what happened to him at the end of shooting Green Field, namely that he was reported by fellow filmmaker Khalek Halil (at the time the director of Afghan Films) to have filmed Soviet troop movements, and therefore had to travel to Moscow under the supervision of another filmmaker, Wali Latifi, to develop the film. Only after the film was processed and examined in Moscow, proving to contain only images of agriculture, was he permitted to move freely again.
According to Latif, the film was actually produced by his private production company, Ariana Films, with funding from the Agricultural Development Bank.
Per Egor: the folder no. 3160.2.3685 contains files of correspondence between Goskino, Mosfilm, Sovinfilm, Kopirfilm, Tsentrnauchfilm, Afghanfilms, the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, Uzkinohronika etc. and refers to a color film by Wali Lateefi and Eng. Lateef on development of agriculture in Afghanistan, which was to be presented at the UN event in October 1981 (sheets 4 - 5).
A film had to be processed in Moscow and apparently copied in Tashkent (sheets 1, 4 - 5). Both Wali Lateefi and Engineer Lateef seemed to visit Moscow in August 1981, where they met B. Pavlov, the Deputy Chairman of Sovinfilm, T. Topadze, the Head of the Department of Developing Countries of Sovinfilm and N. Kunitsin, who was responsible for organization of the film production (sheet no. 6).
