Transfer of Janata colony dwellers

Nearly 3,000 hut-dwellers of the Janata Colony, adjacent to the BARC officérs' quarters, at Mankhurd, were shifted during the first phase which began on Monday.
The shanty-dwellers will be settled at the Cheetah camp on the Sion-Trombay Road.
The operation, which started at 8 a.m. continued till late in the evening was peaceful.
The BARE has purchased nearly 54 acres of land at the Cheetah camp for the hut-dwellers. The area was adequate to resettle the 70,000 people of the colony, the municipal authoritiės told this reporter.
According to the BARC authorities, the Janata colony land is required to. provide housing for its own officers. The demolition will pick up momentum on Tuesday and Wednesday when a large number of people will be shifted to the Cheetah camp.
