Rickshawallah 4: Tell fast! Are you dumb? Everything does not have to be committed to memory!

Rickshawallah 5: When I am engrossed in meditation, the demons trouble me a lot. They come here, kill everyone, trouble the ascetics. They leave us all in a fix. Everywhere, there is chaos. If you trust me, if I am your guru, then I request you to hand over your sons to me. I will train them there. And they will protect us too.

Rickshawallah 6: Okay. As you wish. This is my son Ram and this is my son Laxman. And I am sending them with you.

Offscreen: Loudly! Loudly! Speak loudly, it should be clear! Louder!

Offscreen: Louder!

Rickshawallah 5: Tomorrow, I will take you to Sita's swayamvar. Okay? Go there in Mathura. Don't hunt anything unless I tell you. Now arrange for the swayamvar.

Rickshawallah 7: The one who will bend the bow will get married to Sita!

Rickshawallah 5: Okay brother sit in a line. And, take a count.

Rickshawallah 5: Don't do that by mistake. You will lift the same leg and drop the same one.

Rickshawallah 8: (Laughs). What is this! What is this, o king? You did not invite me! And you have held this gathering. I will say.. you are a King. What is this O King? You have held such a big gathering and you did not call me?

Rickshawallah 5: Forgive me. I won't do such a mistake again..

Rickshawallah 8: My rule! I have been ruling 75 years. And this bow...this King of Lanka will win Sita! (Laughs)

Everyone claps.

Rickshawallah 6: What is this! I will bend the bow and win over Sita!

Rickshawallah 9: This is nothing! I will bend it and win over Sita!

Rickshawallah 11: This is nothing...no one is as powerful as me. I will win over Sita.

Rickshawallah 11: What is this thing! (Laughs)

Everyone claps.

Offscreen: Come fast ! Come fast!

Rickshawallah 8: I can't stand this anymore. I will bend this bow and win over Sita!

Azam Qadri: Sir, had you come in some other period, then we would have given you a ride in a horse carriage Isn't it? Now in 2008, we are the only horse carriages around - sans pollution. So shall we go sir? (finishes reading from the script) Saying this, he sat.

Azam Qadri: Today we will familiarize you with such a history of this place, which is ringing in every street of this city even today. We will go to Roshanara Gardens.

Azam Qadri: But today we will show it in our way- a little differently. So before start take a look at this place carefully.

Azam Qadri: This is Pulbangash Metro station. This will be seen for 10-12 secs.

Shaina: So we have thought now, that start with a blast by singing the song- this was not thought of before. It was thought that the song will come a little later. But the idea is right. Think, whether you want to sing a song here.

Shaina: In the journey...with a lot of speed.

Offscreen: Yeh suhana safar...?
Shaina: Very good! Very good! (Hums, in Hindi) I am scared that I don't get lost..

Azam Qadri: Yes fine. This will also do.

Rickshawallah 3: (Sings) This destination which is waiting... My heart is erupting... I am tied up... I am enchanted and tied up... The day will pass by... call out to me.. call out to me...

Everyone claps.

Shaina: So, this will come a little later when you will go in the lane after passing Palace Cinema. You will reach your haunt but they will be surprised about where they are being taken- that time this song will come. The idea of the first song is great - suhana safar.

Shaina: I am scared that I may not get lost..

Shaina: Pannalal saw, Saddam saw... do you remember, Saddam? If you have stood on the Metro station of Pul Bangash, then you must have heard, 'Don't talk to a stranger!'

Shaina: So, after 'The wonderful journey'..

Azam Qadri: The first song will be this, 'This wonderful journey and this beautiful weather'...your rickshaw is going...where will it reach? Behind in that lane near the broken wall of the Metro..

Azam Qadri: Halt near the factory there. Now, you have reached near that wall where there is the factory of suits...now you will say, 'Brother look here.'

Azam Qadri: Then you will ask, 'Brother, where is your house?' You say, 'Do you love your house?' Definitely everyone will say yes...no one will say I hate my house. No one will say that. Is that okay?

Azam Qadri: After that your story will start. Now this is what you have to explain. He said that I love my house...

Azam Qadri: After sunset, where do the birds go? In their nests. However far it may be...bt madam, what about those who don't have a house? Every day we see a demolished wall, sir. They are staying in these nests since years. See from here because each person wants to tell his story.

Azam Qadri: After that, when that guy is seeing them, when he is carefully realizing all those things.. you have to cut it right there! Okay madam, you have seen this! Okay, this is the Metro. This is Delhi, this keeps happening, houses keep getting demolished.

Azam Qadri: Around July 5, at 8 in the morning, in 2007...

Azam Qadri: In July at 8.30 in the morning, the wall of Palace cinema hall was demolished. Remember? So you have to tell that..

Azam Qadri: And, when the rain fell, then the wall fell off because of the pressure of water. And in this incident, four people were killed. Four people died and the rest were injured. And you have to tell them this that four people died and the rest were injured..

Azam Qadri: Then say, Ma'am ... in this way, many houses were demolished. Those who had land documents, they got reimbursed. And those who didn't have the documents didn't get any reimbursement. Isn't it?

Shaina: This is a matter-of-fact statement. You are not saying anything new. You don't have to say, 'Those who had documents got it... and those who didn't have them didn't get...'

Azam Qadri: You have to say it simply..

Shaina: Everyone knows this madam, only those who have the documents get it... the compensation... that's the English word.. compensation...

Offscreen: Muhafza...

Azam Qadri: They got the compensation... and those who didn't have it didn't get it...are you understanding?

Shaina: Development...

Azam Qadri: See - look here sir, there is a small factory - where thread is manufactured...cotton. Cotton is made in the fields...it gets picked from there and thread is made out of it. And of that, clothes are made. Here, you have to remember a few verses of Kabir too.

Shaina: This you have to commit to memory.

Azam Qadri: This is a verse of Kabir which you have to memorise and recite to them. They have to enjoy their surroundings. Hey! Are you here?

Shaina: Yes, this is important. The Metro will transport you here quickly from afar and that too in Rs. 10/- But how will you reach home from here. This is a special thing about Delhi- that when the Metro came, rickshawallhs were encouraged because the line was made big, but how will the houses go after the line?

Azam Qadri: How will you go in the lanes?

Shaina: How will you go in the lanes? Only through the rickshawallah...and...assume that electricity has reached every village...or water has come to every village...then the question of the last mile arises.

Shaina: This last mile that is there, which implies a water pipeline reaching the house - the way it is in the cities.. or when electricity is being supplied to houses and the wire which comes till the houses...that's also called the last mile.

Azam Qadri: Last mile.

Shaina: The Metro is here and the houses which will reach the last mile, will be through rickhshaws.

Offscreen: It's between 38-40.

Shaina: It's a straight thing that things used to happen by the spinning wheel. But there was the need for thousands of us to have machines. We can grind the flour in the mill. We can grind it with our hands.

Shaina: Now I don't know about North India but in Maharashtra they got a British (sic, Bt cotton) seed of cotton and it was such an evil seed that the cotton would grow out of it and rot after two years. Now can anyone understand this?

Azam Qadri: You know how we do farming in Delhi? We sow wheat, harvest it. We sell half of it, eat half of it and keep some aside for the cows...for the next season. Now one can't keep it for long. But the foreign seeds that are coming, you sow it for once and that's it. It grows. If you want to keep and sow it again, it won't happen. You will have to get the hybrid seeds again. So, that's hybrid.

Azam Qadri: And that thing called Bt cotton - cotton means 'kapas', 'rui'. So there you can say this too, that this is on one side of the fields. But in one place...

Azam Qadri: And there is a place in Maharashtra called Vidarbha... that place...

Azam Qadri: It's a village in India which is very well known. They say a new seed has come up. It is called Bt cotton. It is a foreign seed ma'am...foreign...a lot of people have died...yet, leave it...it doesn't matter..

Shaina: The speciality of this seed is that the seed dies. Have you ever heard of this? The hybrid seed, after one harvest, the seed itself dies.

Shaina: The child that is born is never your progeny. (?)

Shaina : The other thing is, when you roll the thread...(unclear)...let's take it you have started motornama..

Azam Qadri: Friends, you have been told about the villages, about the tour, about the seed.. and one thing madam said is about the model.

Shaina: Your friends - all of you frequent one mechanic shop. Anyway, till 1990, all the rich people who were there, when their cars would fail to work, he knew that he would go to his sardar, his mechanic. This situation changed after 1990. It's about the fridge or the TV. Initially, if someone would sit there or around it, they would repair the TV for you.

Shaina: With that, we will give you a receipt that you may do the repairs in these ten shops in ten cities. So that's why too this area has gone down. That, the imported cars that were there started opening their own recognised service centers.

Shaina: So, these are two-three issues... you may agree or disagree but you should know this in this story... even the audience will ask you!

Shaina: And, all this has happened after 1990. Because, till 1990 the government had imposed licensing in the country. To open a factory or anything you needed to have a license with them. After 1990, it shunned the idea of license, any foreign company can come here and work.

Azam Qadri: They could come and capture it. They could do anything as per their will.

Shaina: But with that comes all this.

Azam Qadri: When new imports came in, new things and new technologies arrived, they didn't even know what those products were for!

Shaina: Take this computer for instance.

Azam Qadri: First it was a computer, now it is this.

Shaina: Normally, anyone could open it because there were four screws here. Now there are no screws. Now if anyone even touches it, one can see that someone has handled it and tried to open it. If anyone lays a line, and if he can't repair it, then I will go to this very dealer and request him to repair my computer. He will say someone has not handled it carefully; we will take eighty thousand (rupees) or ten thousand (rupees) or we won't do it.

Azam Qadri: But in this way, the policy of the market was such that the name will be retained with us. Buy what we are making from us. First it was not so- it was that you had to go to any shop and buy what you wanted. There was a kind of trust.

Rickshawallah 5: Now if anyone wants to buy something, then aren't we bound by a license? And we should think carefully about one thing.. firstly, if you go to buy something, then here also there are many outlets. Even in the cities! If someone gets married, he will be stuck there! When the car will come he will get a lift! This is nonsense but keep one thing in mind..

Rickshawallah 5: Let's assume that I have an instrument of Philips. Now when I am using it, if it malfunctions..if I go in a local shop, he will give me local goods! If I trust that you will sell me the original piece...

Rickshawallah 5: It is nothing! I want to start my life afresh. I will have a gas cylinder, there will be the rent of the house, there will be a fridge, I will make my own apartment, I will go there, isn't it? After that I will start my own business. I will do some investment.

Rickshawallah 5: But here it is like, I got a fan because I need it in the house. I got it and every month I am buying a fan only! What does this mean? I bought a fan. He was selling it for Rs. 500/-, I say why were you selling it for Rs. 500/- ? Sell it for 4-5,000/- but atleast it should work for 10 years. The fan you bought stopped working in 2 months! In this way it is not only about fans.

Rickshawallah 5: They are sitting and day and night they are cleaning but that is not working. Everyday people are coming to them. They will put a motor of Rs. 2000/- and the job is done! These are not small things but there are a lot of things in a person's life...a lot of things.

Rickshawallah 5: See, a bottle of water is kept there. Isn't it? That also costs a lot. If we take that home, then that will become stale. Isn't it? If you throw this then from where will you drink water?

Rickshawallah 5: Here there are many glasses...there are steel glasses...but you will drink water from this plastic glass.

Rickshawallah 5: God has given me a lot. From whatever God has given me I am trying to make things work. If I consume harmful things my health will become worse. But right now what I am thinking of is...I don't know what you are saying, what are you doing for the future...I have no idea about this. But I don't know whether what my mind is thinking and my heart is saying is right.

Rickshawallah 5: In this world people like you are rare. I want to thank you. Whatever you are doing... in many ways...in many years...it will affect not only the poor but even the rich...every person will be affected...and what will it result in?

Rickshawallah 5: Man will go against man. There will be violence. Do you know this? See, the truth is..

Rickshawallah 5: If you want to witness the truth...then the truth says that there are faults in every individual. Every person has faults. Isn't it? If you think that that person came and stole my pot then before him, you are at fault. And, if you have kept the pot outside, then why will he not take it?

Rickshawallah 5: Record this - if you total everything, every important person- I say this with guarantee, that there is no such district where there is no hooliganism. Be it the Congress or the BJP, anything! That doesn't matter. Be it any party. But you see, all these politicians, they are corrupted from the grassroots.

Rickshawallah 5: Are you understanding or not? Till the one at a lower level doesn't want it, things won't go wrong. The lower level is the root of it all. I mean to say that first come the kids and the wife. The mother wasn't there before.

Offscreen: How is that related to us? What should we do?

Rickshawallah 5: I mean to say that you cannot solve this but the way in which you think...you have said something very good...that okay...every person can become trustworthy...let's assume that you have bought that fan of Philips. I will go to a local agency to look at their goods...I will get it at a cheaper price..

Rickshawallah 5: But this will not get done away with. Only when he will want it will be done away with. If the government thinks that I should give the monitor to someone better, then that is wrong.

Offscreen: No, how can we do away with this? We are not talking about doing and not doing away with this.. what do you think about what I said just now? Should we change anything?

Rickshawallah 5: This is not about changing. What you are saying is the truth..

Rickshawallah 5: See my brother...they will come...they will come to know that this is the wall behind (?). This is the wall of our ancestors. Our ancestors will be hurt. A lot of people of different castes used to stay here- young and old- both used to stay here. But no one paid attention to this back then.

Rickshawallah 5: The person I was with, who had the documents...or who had some kind of relation...they could understand this well. But the people of the lower caste who were there, they had no idea that they were sitting on (?) .. isn't it? They were sitting here on (?)... were they in heaven or on earth?

Rickshawallah 5: People went off to sleep. They slept! And the government takes a round every night... No. 100 takes a round every night.. I am telling you about delhi. Do you remember every place?

Rickshawallah 5: But, when the government is looking at its people.. that my people are like this... take a look at a person's face for an hour and you will realize what is going on in his head. That is one technique. You are looking at us for 24 hrs so can't you show us the right direction?

Rickshawallah 5: When you came you saw in Indira market that in front of each shop someone or the other is sleeping on a sack, someone is sleeping on a verandah...someone has worn a shirt and not a vest, and if someone has a shirt then there is no vest!

Rickshawallah 5: What is the use of you seeing? Is there any use of giving speeches? And all those currently just give speeches...all of them are important...I have not seen any poor person doing so...I am also around the age of 24.

Rickshawallah 5: I have not seen any poor person give a speech. Only a rich person will deliver a speech. The poor people sit under the stage.

Offscreen: Okay, Pandit, tell us now what we can do.

Rickshawallah 5: See, are you making those people aware or not?

Offscreen: Yes.

Rickshawallah 5: I will tell many meanings of the word 'aware' - of that one word...you are very educated but can you tell me a few meanings of it? I'll tell you ten meanings of 'aware' . Awareness is ingrained in people. There is result in you people. But you guys go deep into it and get another meaning... which you guys do..

Rickshawallah 5: But for many months they will do that thing. Ok? So in this way I have seen... as you have said.. that they will come in many ways.. then our guests.. the question of guests doesn't arise... the first question is guests in fact ! The way you make the guests aware of things...then assume that I myself forget things...

Rickshawallah 5: I myself don't know...talk to them all in many ways...get all data...and all things which are old or worth showing, or which are worth doing...show and tell them all of those...then when you will tell them things then they will say... 'I am not standing for elections'... I have thought that... (unclear)...

Rickshawallah 5: I have thought of it before.. you are educated.. why are you educated... don't you know about this wall? Don't you want... I say... you yourself wanted to defame us... people had come before. They also wanted all this... if all this was going to happen before then what was there to get scared of?

Rickshawallah 5: Isn't it? CBI - it is so renowned that they are considered second best to the police. It is useless to mention the CBI. When they follow us, they don't track down the eminent people. They are bothered only about the commons.

Offscreen: Ok now...I understand what you are saying...now, atleast listen!

Rickshawallah 5: What I want to say is, that is getting out of our hands.

Offscreen: Then let it go!

Rickshawallah 5: No.. I don't know what it is like... it is happening for the second time..

Offscreen: What I was telling you was... I was making you understand.... you interrupted me in the middle... you made me stop... one second, let me finish... you stopped me so that I may change something?

Rickshawallah 5: No, that's not the case.

Offscreen: No, it seems like...if that's the case then tell.

Rickshawallah 5: I mean to say... we are fighting amongst ourselves.. I am telling you what I feel...

Offscreen: Yes, that's what we are saying...

Rickshawallah 5: But when a man speaks in a proper manner... (unclear)... are you satisfied? Now you will question at that time then people will be curious to know something or you will ask something else. Or talk here only about what you want... because you should experiment in all ways that the person before you is satusfied.

Rickshawallah 5: Please don't give any examples. Give only one example. One definite example... such that the people before you are satisfied.

Offscreen: Your purpose.. can you come along now?

Rickshawallah 5:If I say that then are we saved or not?

Offscreen: Please, please carry on.

Rickshawallah 5: No... now you see madam, Pulbangash, Malkaganj or Roshanara road...all of these are ordinary things. But if someone fights here, if someone abuses, then we don't answer back. This is a very big...if you have a bit of concern then I say there is no possibility of something going wrong. It is such that if we make a mistake today then there will be a scooter strike.

Offscreen: So...tell me...you are saying what you want to...

Rickshawallah 5: I don't know brother it is not coming in my head...

Offscreen: If you go to see you are talking about the demolished wall...you had stopped me when I was talking...

Offscreen: That's what I had said, that you see sir, this is such a big fight going on..

Rickshawallah 5: It happens... when you get a house that time all of this will happen.

Rickshawallah 5: This is for reading...it is in English...nowadays, you tell me...all the workers that are there, some must be (?).. isn't it? I mean... so their rules...

Rickshawallah 5: Yes, so that's a good thing... this generation that is going on... doing the law with the British... I mean they were going to do it...all of them went. They were satisfied. This never can happen. And take it that they are dead. When the bullet shot him... then this will also happen when you get its license. It must not be frivoulous.

Rickshawallah 5: So, they got it. But you tell me - did anyone try to find out that why did they leave it and go? And the second thing is, that let go of whatever has happened. Because whatever went...we don't know where it went.

Rickshawallah 5: But tell this that this building that is standing there, all of this that the British were doing... the British didn't open (?).

Shaina: Iqbal sir was there two years back. Before that it was haunted.

Shaina: And the boy beside him who is there.. he will be our speaker...when we asked him whose house it is, he said it is my daddy's. Now we know that in 1960 - 1950 ... when the house was divided, that time, many Punjabis occupied abandoned houses of Muslim. Even in Pakistan many Muslims stayed in houses abandoned by Hindus. Now the house belongs to the person who is staying there.

Shaina: So we don't know when the British went..

Rickshawallah 5: But you know atleast this much that when British rule ended, after the partition happened, then you must be knowing atleast this much that when we went to their houses and occupied them...

Rickshawallah 5: I mean to say only this much that opened..Open is a very good thing. Open means opening up something...reading something...

Rickshawallah 5: He said something excellent that...meaning to say that...if you ask then you will ask God for it...if someone is to be stopped then God should stop them... man can make or break something.

Offscreen: Now, you tell me..

Offscreen: You tell me what your problem is.

Offscreen: So then what is it?

Shaina: There is an umbrella there...

Shaina: It has been told that see and hear...in between 1995 and 2000, all the factories causing pollution have been shut down. These motor shops will also be shut in the future. The government issued CNG and pollution decreased. But if a day arrives when you...car..., will you be able to do so?

Azam Qadri: If you go further up you will find umbrellas (sic) stacked over each other.

Shaina: You have to open the door...and as there is no light, you will use this torch. You have to pick that torch and light it.

Azam Qadri: If you see that umbrella (sic) will be suspended there...you will say to us that.. the moving pictures that are there,

Shaina: It will be a line... it will be a line of moving pictures... Now what happens is, you will hold 25 pictures together and it will be this long...those 25 move in a circle. So what happens is that if my hand is here amongst the 25, then here, then here, here...ok? It goes through 25 pictures. By those pictures the motor... the timing should be right.

Shaina: You get it in a circle. So 25 pictures will be in a line. So you will see it moving in a second. So all those who will see the photo will see my hand from here, here, here...
