AlIYA
No. Mom isn't coming. It's been crazy. They are asking her to go back to Egypt to get her visa. Anyway, I'm going to be in Cairo soon for the exhibition.
(beat)
What are you talking about? Why did you call my mom?
(pause)
No! Of course, not! I am working towards it. There's no question of cancelling it. So tell me, what's Layla's big idea for the exhibiton?
(beat)
Are you serious?

Your boss has gone crazy. It's a ridiculous idea.
(beat)
Why? Well for one, my earlier works have been exhibited only recently at CGMA and to juxtapose it with the new one is just so kitsch! It's so before and after. It's reductionist and encourages unnecessary comparison.
Aliya stops walking. She has noticed something. The conversation continues but her attention has waivered.
AlIYA (CONT'D)
Of course, I do end up doing the comparison myself. But I don't want this exhibition to be a character study of me. It should just showcase the new work! That's it!
