Maitreya is lying in bed. He is surrounded by devotees. Two young boys have their palms joined as they stand before him. One of them says a prayer. People approach him one at a time to take his blessings. Mr Mehta, the book-seller comes up to him. His voice sounds muffled. Like it has travelled the length of a pipe, it is shallow and distant: Mr. Mehta (In Hindi; Subtitled) Sir, please tell me... Do we really have souls? Maitreya's eyes appear to roll back.
