Summary: Besides
all the drinking, singing, and coloring, the people of the Jaisalmer fort have
an interesting ritual for Holi. One newly married man volunteers to be the
King. This "king for a day" does the prayers in the main temple on
Holi and rides all around the fort from house to house distributing the 'prasad'.
He then presides over the festivities and is the only man on whom no colour is
thrown. In the evening he sponsors a party for the 5000 odd locals of Jaisalmer
fort. Throughout the year he is made to feel special about this generous act by
being affectionately called Raja-ji.
