Jaisalmer Fort is what is known as a living fort. About five thousand people plus tourists live here at any given time. Narrow gallis paved with stone that are lined with colourful shops and tiny sand stone houses that are vertical mazes, with steep, sometimes, curving stairways that lead you through doors that you can bump your head on and many half-floors, before you get to the ubiquitous ‘rooftop restaurant with real espresso and Italian food’.
