Summary: The
weaving footage is shot at one of the many weaving studios in Thenzawl,
Mizoram. Every house has at least one loom. Since the area is hilly, many
houses are on stilts. This particular weaving space is under a house. There are
6 looms and women take shifts to come and work on them. They are weaving a
fabric called a Puan which is similar to a Lungi or a Sarong. The rhythm of the
weaving varies depending on the complexity of the design and the skill of the
weaver.
This
was another turning point for us, as we started to notice the dance-like foot
movements of the women who were weaving, and other rhythms in their workspace.
The shoot was less about the fabric or the product and more about these
rhythms.
