Summary: Part of the footage of the film Taaza Khabar directed by Bishakha Datta and produced by Nirantar. The film is about the journey of a team of all women journalists of Khabar Lahariya (a grassroots newspaper published by the women themselves) through several obstacles. The determined efforts are to ensure the 62nd issue of Khabar Lahariya reaches its readers on time. The women are from Chitrakoot district in U.P. who report stories that find no space in mainstream media. It also portrays how these women have created their own space and established their identity in a context where patriarchy and caste-based discriminations are dominant. In this video, we see the offices of newspapers like Dainik Jagran and Amar Ujala, where men are seen working on different tasks. A brief glance of the streets in the evening and a Videocon store, where men sit and listen to news indicates a predominantly male presence in public spaces.

A postbox with "Amar Ujala" painted on it, hangs outside the Amar Ujala office. Inside, men are seen writing notes, some discussing and typing on computers. There is male chatter in the background. One of them speaks on the phone discussing work while another types out news in Hindi on the computer by referring to notes that he clips next to the screen. There is a silence now, as everyone concentrates on their task. The sound of the typing in the background lends to the ambience of a news agency.

A long dark corridor with faint lights on the ceiling shows that evening has set in and it's time for people to leave work. The streets are dark, with only one street light on the far left. A few vehicles pass by. A young man is seen adjusting the switches of many television sets arranged inside a Videocon store. Men sit around in the store, listening to the news. Two young boys stand outside the door of the store and intently watch television. These images show the significance of media and news in the lives of the locals, and how they are interested in keeping themselves aware of what happens around them. What is also interesting in the clip is that there are only men throughout - from the news agency offices to the streets and the stores.
