Interview with Writer/Director:
Shaina: So first let's talk about Gunah, because it's also your first feature film. What's it about? It opens with a painter painting a female form, a nude portrait.
The subject matter of Gunah had been troubling me for a long time. I worked on this script for two years. I wanted to work this problem that was plaguing our society. Two classes, one very rich and one very poor. The rich being decadent, in search for relaxation, pleasure. (Not art).
And the poor, often kind and honest people working be in their service. An me, i belonged to that small middle class. I was in the middle, I had relationships on both sides and could d feel the and understand them very well.
This first scene was symbolic. A painter working very seriously on this portrait, because he needs to sell the painting to get money to make ends meet for himself and his family. He is from the lower class.
But when he gives the patron the painting, for them it's a woman, and she's like that. The man has some dialogue with the painter, and he doesn't want to take that one. The rich person does not take the painting.

, and after that he dies. This is the year of activities that most people in this society had somebody die, and somebody remaining. Somebody goes somewhere and disappears, he dies, somebody has a sickness and is laying at home. But the family who is remaining, they are looking for something to wear, something to eat, going somewhere to get a bus for transportation, to go to school.
But unfortunately, they couldn't. For this purpose in the society, the elder brother cannot have any (...) But during the making of this film the Revolution came, and the government announced that we could no longer film.
Something unwanted, for the society, for the people. It was two generations like that; one was so rich and one poor. Yes, class. But the rich people wanted something to make them happy and to enjoy. Not art, but something artificial, some moment that could make them relax. They were real people that live there in that society. Sometimes decent, kind, and honest people must be in their service. It was the time of this requirement. It was a force of the time by these people. I wrote this script for two years. Why for two years? Because I was living in this society. I was in the middle. I was feeling this side, and feeling that side very well, because I had a relation with this side, and I was feeling this duration also.
Shaina: Would you say that you were middle class?
Yes.
Shaina: Because Afghanistan has a very small middle class. There are very rich and very poor.
Yes. I was in the middle class at that time.
Shaina: So you had access to members of both societies?
