Summary: Date (Afghan Calendar): 1348
A 45 minute black and white film originally produced as part of a three-part anthology film called Rozgaran (each part with a different director). 'Talabgar' (directed by Khaleq Halil) translates loosely as 'the one who asks' and in the case of this 40-minute film the one who asks is specifically the man who asks a girl's parents for their permission to court their daughter. Two clips digitised during workshop, full film should be done later.

Most of the film is a daffy comedy (with the appropriate, if somewhat tacked-on, moral ending) about a gambler trying to cheat his way into the good graces of a wealthy family whose daughter he wishes to marry.

Let's go to Mazar Mullah Mohammad Jaan
To see the field of tulip flowers, my beloved

Which direction do we have to take now, sir?

Let's go from the university road.

What's the point?

I might get to see Sima jaan.

Go straight.

No, take the right turn, my good man.

Come my beloved as I am your life,
I am dying for your ruby colored lips that are like wine.

Tell me how much money is left.

You saw it; we will still have our milk and Parantha.

May you have a long life.

I am not kissing the lip of the goblet of wine
I am worried and upset about you
Let's go to Mazar Mullah Mohammad Jaan
To see the field of tulip flowers, my beloved

That is the girl I love!

Follow that bus, my good man. Fast!

Respected audience, now we are going to listen to Zaland's song

Let's go.

I am a lover; I am a lover, come, my beloved
I am a lover; I am a lover, come, my beloved

Sir, I know this girl. She is Salim Khan's daughter.

I know. I do not care whose daughter she is. I won't let her go.

I am drunk with the fantasy of joining you,
Your gaze is enough to do me in,
if someone wants to convince me to fall into your net.
I am a lover: I am a lover, come, my beloved
You are fair, so don't wear a black dress,
You are ruthless and you kill me with your glances.

Okay, if you love her so much, the only way around this is by tricking her family into it; otherwise, it would be impossible.

Listen, her family has already been tricked. Your brother (me) has already wooed her.

What are you saying?
