Infrastructure, Economic and Technical Developments in Kandahar Province
Kandahar is one of the big cities of our country. From development point of view, the structure of the city has improved over the past few years. People take a lot of interest in renovation and constructing modern buildings throughout the city, and this is why many buildings are constructed in this city every year. Construction of cities and buildings with their modern infrastructure has a great impact on mental and physical being of people and that is the reason why apart from the mental education, we work on the expansion of our financial developments as well.
The factory producing woollen fabric at Kandahar has entered a new phase of production based on new development projects of the country. This factory produces woollen fabrics, shawl and related products. This factory has been equipped with all modern machinery of washing, processing and spinning the wool.
The spinning spools section of this factory has been improved and improvised lately.
The woollen products factory of Kandahar has paid considerable attention to quality of the fabrics produced. The government has paid considerable attention to the development of this factory.
In Sunbulah 1339 (August/September 1960), Mr. Sardar Mohammad Dauod, the Prime Minister, paid a visit to the factory of woollen products of Kandahar and promised government aids and guidance to the owners of the factory. He then asked extensive questions about the development plans of the factory and expressed his opinion about the betterment of the quality of production and its future expansion.
During this trip to Kandahar, the Prime Minister, visited the fruit processing unit. This factory will make use of technology to preserve Kandahar's fresh fruit for export to international markets in a better way.
Construction work of an international airport in Kandahar has been started with the help of Americans. The runways of this airport are nearly close to completion. Soon enough, the construction of additional buildings and the rest of construction work would be completed and the airport would be ready for use. Soon, national flights from most of countries and foreign flights will land at this airport.
The Prime Minister also visited and closely studied work procedures at this workshop in Kandahar International Airport. The Kandahar airport workshop which has been prepared and equipped based on international standards, is now fully operational for the thorough repairing of all types of airplanes with two engines. Previously, planes were sent to Europe for repair.
Ariana Afghan Airlines has its own educational and experimental center in Kandahar for training its flight crew. This center which is named Link Training Center is responsible to train the young pilots of Ariana Afghan airline.
The young people employed for technical services in Ariana Afghan Airline are trained in theory and practicals at the Kandahar Educational Center.
Civil Aviation Authority in Kandahar has created a course for the purpose of training its own professional employees. Till date this course has accommodated many of the graduates of the primary schools and has initiated their trainings. This course presented by Civil Aviation Authority includes training skilled people for the management of the newly established airports of the country, communication operators, meteorologist and technical staffs. Upon completion, these young people would be sent to the airports throughout the country.
In the Civil Aviation Communication Operator Course, learning typing is one of the requirements. Parallel development of Afghanistan on many fronts is a great leap of success for the under developed countries.
In International airport of Kandahar, the process of repairing Ariana Afghan Airline planes has successfully started. In the recent years, many of the earlier problems in the country have been mainly resolved due to rapid rate of growth and development. With the resolution of those old problems the country enters a threshold of development in which new problems could also arise. Now we are constantly challenging our problems and work our way through them, we march hand in hand towards progress and development. Our struggle would prepare the ground for a healthy and sophisticated generation.
In the project of international Airport of Kandahar, work is rapidly progressing. Function of this airport as an international transit point would create immense changes in the city. This is the first time that in our country a transit point for other countries' flights is opening. This airport would shorten the time of fights between Far East and Western countries.
At the foot of Pir Koh (mountain) of Kandahar a hydro-generator has been fixed. This generator which is fed from Arghandab River would soon reach the level of production to cover the city.
City of Kandahar presently utilizes a diesel generator but soon there would come the time when the required electricity of the city would be produced by hydro-generators.
Unit of fruit processing of Kandahar is not yet complete. In this unit which has the capacity of a factory to turn fresh fruits of Kandahar into compote and is used for the additional task of sorbet making. The unit has been equipped with different machinery needed for preservation of variety of fruits. This factory would export variety of our fruits to many of foreign countries.
