Summary: The 3rd International Odissi Festival was organised by IPAP between December 26 - 30, 2006 in Bhubaneswar. Dedicated to the memory of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, the festival also saw the construction of a gigantic open-air dance theatre in the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya campus. The daylong performances included leading and upcoming Odissi dancers. The festival also made space for seminars, Odissi music and lecture demonstrations.
Kimiko Yanagida is an Odissi dancer from Japan. She trained under Guru Hare Krishna Behera and later Guru Subhash Chandra Swain. She established her own Odissi dance troupe, Chandrika, at Osaka in Japan. Chandrika now has fifty members in Osaka, Kobe and Tokyo. Members of Chandrika have performed in major cities in Japan like Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Nana, Kobe, Nagoya Fukuoka etc and participated in many occasions like the 50th Anniversary of Indo-Japan diplomatic relations 2003, Dance festival in Yamaguchi University 2005, Asia Music Festival 2007, The Silk Road Symposium 2007, Dance Festival “IMAGES” in Hope University Michigian USA 2007.
