Summary: The 3rd International Odissi Festival was organised by IPAP between December 26 - 30, 2006 in Bhubaneswar. Dedicated to the memory of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, the festival also saw the construction of a gigantic open-air dance theatre in the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya campus. The daylong performances included leading and upcoming Odissi dancers. The festival also made space for seminars, Odissi music and lecture demonstrations.
Ankur Ballal has been studying Odissi under Jhelum Paranjape in Smitalay since 1995. Ankur was noticed by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and groomed further by him - as he has done with nearly all the senior students of Smitalay. As a college student he has won the first prize in dance competitions conducted by Swar Sadhana Samiti, Sharada Sangeet Vidyalay and Yuvak Biradari. He has been teaching Odissi at Smitalay for twelve years now. He has assisted Guru Jhelum Paranjape in choreography and has also choreographed Smitalay's production 'Bahinaai'.
Ketaki Shetge studied Odissi under Jhelum Paranjape. She has taught at Smitalay, her guru's institution, and continues to teach Odissi. She is also trained in Bharatanatyam and performs both dances.
Here the two dancers perform Nachanti range srihari , a sabhinaya choreographed by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra. A sabhinaya has a mixture of nritta and abhinaya.
