Summary: The 3rd International Odissi Festival was organised by IPAP between December 26 - 30, 2006 in Bhubaneswar. Dedicated to the memory of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, the festival also saw the construction of a gigantic open-air dance theatre in the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya campus. The daylong performances included leading and upcoming Odissi dancers. The festival also made space for seminars, Odissi music and lecture demonstrations.
Sharanya is a versatile performer who has studied dance since she was four. She started learning Odissi under the tutelage of Nandita Behera and later went on to train with Aruna Mohanty, Manoranjan Pradhan and other teachers from Orissa Dance Academy. In India, Sharanya has performed at Vasantotsav, New Delhi, Dover Lane Dance Festival, Kolkata, Konark Dance and Music Festival, Konark. She performed at the 1st and 2nd International Odissi Festivals in the USA, Banga Sammelon, California, Rhythms of India, Hawaii, LA Dance Kaliedoscope and UCLA. Sharanya has also trained in other dance styles like flamenco, hip-hop, Bollywood, Korean dance and African dance. She trained in taekwondo and uses the martial art form in her performances. In 2005, she choreographed Sinbad, with eight dance sequences in different styles. Sharanya has performed at various charity events in the Los Angeles area and has performed Odissi at various talent pageants she participated in. She has now started teaching Odissi with the objective of spreading the dance form. Sharanya is also a graduate of UCLA.
