Summary: The 3rd International Odissi Festival was organised by IPAP between December 26 - 30, 2006 in Bhubaneswar. Dedicated to the memory of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, the festival also saw the construction of a gigantic open-air dance theatre in the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya campus. The daylong performances included leading and upcoming Odissi dancers. The festival also made space for seminars, Odissi music and lecture demonstrations.
Bijaya Kumar Sahoo is a Senior National Scholarship holder. He has completed a bachelor's degree in music from the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Starting his career as Gotipua dancer, he later switched over to Odissi under the supervision of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. Some of his major dance performances have been 'Konark Dance Festival', Puri beach Festival', ' Swarnotsav,' 'Dhauli Mahotsav' - all in Orissa, 'Orissa Day' in Bhopal, ' Sapta Sajya' in Kolkata, 'Odissi Sandhya' in New Delhi and 'Kalidasa Samaroha' in Ujjain. He has been abroad to perform at the major festivals organized in USA and is a dance instructor at Chitralekha Dance Academy, Canada. Janhabi Behera is a student-cum-performer of Orissa Dance Academy. She is a recipient of the Singarmani title from Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai; she has also received the Senior National Scholarship. With a rich and varied experience of having performed across the length and breadth of the country, she has been to Japan as a soloist and to North Korea for the 20th Spring Friendship Art Festival.
Here, the duo perform Rageshree Pallavi, choreographed by Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and set to music by Ramahari Das.
