Summary: This contains mostly visuals, and a few short interviews towards the end. The visuals are of the 'rathyatra' passing through a muslim majority area of Ahmedabad in 2002. Shots of the the area just before and after the rathyatra passes by show the palpable tension and fear till it has passed by. Heavy presence of police and RAF(Rapid Action Force), decorated raths passing by followed by and preceded by devotees, elders of the area pacifying fellow muslims, muslims celebrating after the rathyatra passes through, kids dismantle barricades, cops shake hands with muslims, and so on. The interviews are at a refugee camp with survivors talking about the fear and tension caused by the rathyatra and the relief when it passed their area without a problem.
This footage is part of the Shared Footage collection. The Shared Footage Group was a collective formed in the aftermath of the carnage in Gujarat in 2002. It consisted of mainly film professionals and film students, apart from several others. The idea was to document survivor's stories on video so that the footage could be used later free of cost by anyone interested in the material.
