Summary: Queer’ stands for all LGBTI people, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex, and for Hijra, Kothi, Panthi – all those who are not accepted by a society that recognises only two genders and considers only heterosexual relationships valid.
On the 16th of August 2008, a day after Independence Day commemorations, Mumbai’s queer (or LGBT: lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community marched to demand freedom from Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code which treated homosexuality as criminal.
Estimates of the number of people who participated in the march vary from 2,000 to 2,500. Covered extensively by regional, national and international media, the Indian Pride marches marked the coming of age of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement in the country.
The cheeky slogans and posters, as well as some of the more innovative demands that queer activists made during the Pride marches, were lapped up by the media.

Slogan: Our protest is on! (Repeated)

Our protest is on in Delhi ! Our protest is on in Bangalore ! (repeated)

Our protest is on against Homophobia! (repeated)

This protest is starting from this ground. This ground had been a very important landmark of one independence struggle. And we want to say that there are many different types of struggle. They are of many kinds. And they are always going on. We got freedom as a citizen of this country 160 years back.

A lot of citizens are not free even today. And today we are gathered here for this right of freedom. Cheers to Queer Azadi !

The government, the law and the police is trying to invade our privacy. If today they are harrasing women, then tomorrow they will treat us badly too. Then this is a request to get united ! Lets cheer for Queer Azadi together !

Let us live in peace! (Repeated)

Cheers to Queer Azadi !

Song is being sung (I say this all the time... I am a human and I love a human)
